In today's world, data has become a valuable resource for businesses, governments, researchers, and individuals alike. Technologies are evolving at a faster pace which is leading organizations to adopt newer technologies and solutions at a very faster rate. As a result of this old applications are becoming obsolete and there is a need to decommission these applications. Certain applications like SAP holds enterprise information that is required to be retained due to regulatory and statutory requirements especially in the case of SAP ERP with the advent of SAP S/4 HANA many organizations are upgrading from SAP ECC and SAP ECC on HANA to SAP s/4 HANA. Retaining retired applications like SAP ECC and SAP ECC on HANA involves hardware and software costs.
System decommissioning becomes a very important and key task when SAP ECC is the retired application. There is a need for a solution that can help organizations decommission their legacy SAP ECC systems which helps reduce the cost and retain the data in a format that is compliant with legal and statutory requirements. SAP has an offering called SAP Information Lifecycle Management which can help organizations in archiving of live systems and decommissioning legacy systems. This paper explores the functionality of SAP Information lifecycle management called Retention Warehouse which enables organizations to archive legacy data and stores data in its storage and helps them decommission legacy applications.
